What is Silk Lamination?
Silk lamination is the up coming feature for printing which has an elegant and unique texture. It starts by having a standard business printed in full color, then laminated on both sides with silk which gives off its special ‘smooth as silk’ feel. Having a silk laminated business card is unlike any other card. However we do advise that the silk is a laminate, not a coating. Having a silk laminated card can slightly effect the color of your finished card.

Ordering a Special Print Option?
Ordering a special print option such as Spot UV, Color Foil, or even Embossing can be very exciting. However, we do require a separate file for these special print options. Each print option must have their own separate mask file.
When processing your order, you will be asked to upload a mask file for the specified print option selected. Separating a mask file from your print file can seem very difficult, but is actually really simple! A mask file is a white background with the print option filled with 100%K (black ink). The process of setting up a mask file for different print options is pretty uniform.
See below on how a mask file should look like:

Beware of Dull Colors
When laminating print with silk, please keep in mind that silk can dull color. If your artwork is too dark, the silk lamination will only make this darker/duller. Looking for a vibrant color to pop from your matte background? We recommend using either custom Pantone Inks, or simply applying Spot UV over the desired color, as this will enhance the ink coverage.
