Silk lamination is the up coming feature for printing. The process of printing a silk laminated card is unique. It starts by having a standard business printed in full color, then laminated on both sides with silk which gives off its special ‘smooth as silk’ feel. Having a silk laminated business card is unlike any other card. However we do advise that the silk is a laminate, not a coating. Having a silk laminated card can slightly effect the color of your finished card.
A dull Aqueous coating is applied after the printing process is completed. The Matte or “Dull” finish provides a very unique finish for your printed material. Matte stock is very smooth and has a slight “eggshell” sheen.
UV Coating is one of the most popular features people choose for their standard business cards. It’s fast, cost-effective, and still gets good impressions. UV Coating consists of a gloss coating that is applied to the printed paper and dried using a ultraviolet light. This process makes the UV coating a slick surface which becomes near waterproof.
We accept PDF, EPS, AI, JPEG, TIFF, and PSD files. When submitting these files, please make sure they are in the color mode of CMYK and NOT RGB. Your file will be rejected. When submitting a .eps, .ai, .pdf from illustrator, please make sure you outline your fonts! By not doing so, this can delay the process.
There are many ways to make sure your file is set up correctly. We recommend sending your file in as a .ai, .psd, .pdf with layers. This way we can inspect your files easier.
When setting up your document, please make sure you have a bleed line of a 1/16″ bleed on all sides. For example, a 3.5″ x 2″ business card file should be submitted at 3.625″ x 2.125″ Please use our print templates for the best results.
Make sure your color mode is set in CMYK and NOT RGB. This is give you an idea what colors you can use before you start the design process.
If you are designing your piece in Illustrator, please make sure to convert all fonts and text to outlines and flatten all transparencies. ( .PDF, .EPS, .AI files )
Make sure your resolution is set to a MINIMUM of 300 DPI!
Depending on what job you are submitting to us. If it’s standard business cards these items are printed and shipped in 2 – 4 business days. TURNAROUND TIMES ARE ONLY AN ESTIMATE AND NOT A GUARANTEE
No, we cannot rush any print order. Please plan accordingly as our turnaround times do not include weekends. However, we can expedite the shipping if the buyer requests it. The buyer is responsible for paying the expedited price. We print at the highest quality possible which makes our schedule pretty tight.
Typical house printers cannot print edge to edge. Your printer at home or office will almost always leave a white border around your paper ( if trying to print edge to edge ). For a specialty print shop like We The Printers, we require that you have a 1/16″ bleed line so your item can have color from edge to edge. When you extend your design/color past the cut line, the blade cuts right through the ink versus not having a bleed line and cutting directly on the cut line which is almost impossible. This will leave a white line on almost all of your cards. When designing your card, try to keep important information at least 1/8″ from the cut line (red line). By doing so, this will ensure there will be no text cut from your card.
We will not add a bleed line for you, that is the designer’s responsibility when creating the product. If your document does not have the proper bleed line, it will be rejected for you to fix.
As vibrant as color can be on screen, its impossible to have colors you see on screen, print on paper. As the saying goes “Your screen lies to you”. The colors you see on your computer screen is called additive color. Subtractive color is the kind of color which is applied to your print job.
Additive Color describes the situation where color is created by mixing the visible light emitted from differently colored light sources. This is in contrast to subtractive colors where light is removed from various part of the visible spectrum to create colors.
Subtractive Color model explains the mixing of paints, dyes, inks, and natural colorants to create a full range of colors, each caused by subtracting (that is, absorbing) some wavelengths of light and reflecting the others. The color that a surface displays depends on which colors of the electromagnetic spectrum are reflected by it and therefore made visible.
We cannot guarantee that colors will come out the way you expect but with our high end equipment, your job will be produced with the highest quality possible.

If you have blue in your design, please make sure you have at least 30% difference in your Cyan and Magenta values. As you may know, blue is fairly close to purple in the CMYK spectrum. Use a low amount of magenta whenever using high amounts of cyan to avoid the purple hue.
Edge cracking is common on business cards when the card has a high value of ink such as dark colors. This typically happens because of the finish used as well as the colors used in the document. This is NOT caused by a dull blade. To avoid this problem, we advise that you use lighter colors! Another alternative is proceeding with a Silk Laminated Business Card. We will not reprint any order that contains edge cracking as this is a natural process when using a Finish versus a Laminate.
It depends on what you are trying to achieve. We advise that you DO NOT put Spot UV over any small text because clients in the past have been disappointed trying it. If you are unsure, let a professional staff member give the final call however we WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE if we tell you not to proceed. At that point, you are at your own discretion.
We use various printing facilities located internationally and locally depending on what product you’re ordering. By using various printing facilities, we can offer extremely low prices as well as deliver great quality products. This keeps costs to a minimum which in return, we’re able to pass these savings along to you!
You can achieve this result by using the ‘Rich Black Value’ of C=60, M=40, Y=40, K=100 for Standard UV cards and also any silk laminated products. If you want a rich black on a matte/dull finish product, please use C=40, M=40, Y=20, K=100.
Sorry, but we cannot ship any print order to P.O Boxes. However our sample box can be shipped to a P.O Box.
It depends on what you are trying to achieve. We advise that you DO NOT use foil for small text because clients in the past have been disappointed trying it. If you are unsure, let a professional staff member give the final call however we WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE if we tell you not to proceed. At that point, you are at your own discretion.
When prepping your foil masks, we recommend that you use font size no less than 8pt for foil stamping. If you are unsure, let a professional staff member give the final call however we WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE if we tell you not to proceed. At that point, you are at your own discretion.
This heavily depends on the design’s artwork. We do not recommend borders at all. However in some cases, the border can be printed perfectly. When in production, the printing plates can shift up to 1/16″. This slight shift within the printing plates is a natural cause during the print production. If creating a design that contains borders, please make the border AT LEAST 0.25″ thick on all sides. If your border lines are not thick enough, the document will not look 100% centered See diagram below –
We do not guarantee that any type of border thickness will be 100% even. We will not credit/refund any jobs that contain slightly shifted borders!
When designing your artwork and mask files, keep in mind that Spot UV CAN be bled off of the business card. Raised Spot UV and Speckled Spot UV CANNOT be bled off of the card. This will be shown in your digital print proof upon purchase.
Yes! We can emboss Spot UV. We CANNOT emboss with Raised Spot UV OR Speckled Spot UV.
Unfortunately, we cannot emboss a 16pt edge painted card. However, we are able to edge paint a 32pt or 48pt card that contains an embossing.
Unfortunately, we cannot edge paint custom 16pt die-cut cards at this time. However, we are able to die-cut the top layer of the 32pt or 48pt card stock with edge painting for an alternative.
We do not recommend that you cover 100% of the business card in foil. Doing so, will only cause the foil to flake off and be scratched very easily. We would not be able to reprint your print order if your foil coverage indeed is affected. We recommend that you cover no more than 50% of the business card with foil to minimize your chances of the foil flaking as well as scratching.
If you emboss a 16pt card, this will have a recession, also known as a ‘deboss’, on the rear side of the business card. To avoid this, we recommend using 32pt card stock as this is layered and will cover the recessed side. Please note that a very slight recession is possible even with the 32pt as this is a natural effect when in production.
We cannot rush our production times, only the shipping method. It is, YOU, the customer’s responsibility to map out when exactly you need cards and to make sure you’re ordering the right product. We are NOT responsible if your requested deadline is not met. If you’re unsure if your cards will; or will not meet your deadline, please contact us and our staff will advise if this is a possibility or if we advise against it. We do our best to make our customers aware of this and stress that orders are placed weeks in advance before the deadline. Even though it’s rare, your job could be rejected by quality control and sent back into production for a reprint.
When you order any type of print job through us, you agree and understand the stated turnaround times and that they are only an estimated time frame and not a guarantee. By ordering and approving your printing proof, you understand that your job can finish early or could take a couple extra days in production.
Although we make every possible effort to turn jobs around in the estimated times offered, your job may require more time due to unforeseeable or uncontrollable circumstances or finishing services added onto the job. We will not credit customers if a job runs past the estimated turnaround time. Turnaround time does not include shipping time, just production time. TURNAROUND TIMES ARE AN ESTIMATE, NOT A GUARANTEE!**
Unfortunately, our print process does not allow for us to make this happen. Our quantities range from 100 qty to 5,000 qty+ as this depends on what product you’re ordering.
EXAMPLE: If you were to want just 125 cards, we would have to put this on a 250 size print run. The print process does not allow us to spot half way through production to change the printing plates for a different name as this would add considerable cost to the job.
In the end, the short answer is No. This request is not possible due to the printing process which gives us the ability to offer special pricing on such custom cards.
Please keep in mind that Spot UV, Raised Spot UV, and Speckled Spot UV can shift up to 1/16″ during production! This slight shift is normal and part of the production process. We advise that you DO NOT use Spot UV for small, thin text because of a possible shift. Spot UV is a transparent UV Coating that is applied to the top layer of the business card. Spot UV can also make certain colors more vibrant due to it’s high gloss coating.
