16pt Liquid Foil Matte Business Cards
Liquid Foil allows you to turn an array of CMYK colors, into multi-colored foils. Liquid foil uses a unique processed foil system, which applies a silver foil under the 4/c CMYK color. This turns your selected colors into a metallic foil ink. It’s simple, affordable, and makes your prints stand out from the crowd! Become creative by using Liquid Foil on your gradients and photos!
Note that these business cards are different from our Matte/Dull Finish cards. However, the Matte Liquid Foil Cards have a slight sheen effect, which is caused by the silver foil that is applied underneath the print layer. For best results, we advise that you use lighter colors for your foil selection.
When ordering Liquid Foil Business Cards, you must include your Liquid Foil masks along with your Print/CMYK files. The mask file indicates where the Liquid Foil effect will be placed. Setting up your mask file is the same as Spot UV —100% K where foil is placed, 0% where the foil is not placed.
** NOTE – Your desired Foil Color is determined by your print files. For example, if you want green foil, green ink/color must be present in your print files. **

Tips on Setting up Your Liquid Foil Masks
As shown above, the file on the left is the normal CMYK print file. We chose all ink to be in foil which you will see on the right. The colors you want in Liquid Foil, the mask file should look like the file on the right. The White indicates no foil and 100% K indicates where the Liquid Foil will be. When processing your order, you will be asked to upload a mask file for the specified print option selected. Separating a mask file from your print file can seem very difficult, but is actually really simple! A mask file is a white background with the print option filled with 100%K (black ink). The process of setting up a mask file for different print options is pretty uniform.
Here are some more things to keep in mind when creating your Liquid Foil artwork:
- – Make sure the mask and CMYK print file are aligned and match up properly.
- – Liquid Foil works best on lighter colors. The darker the CMYK color, the less the Liquid Foil look.
- – Do not use very thin or small text and artwork with Liquid Foil. Use san serif fonts above 12 point for best results.
The best results for a silver foil look, we recommend that you make sure you have at least 15% K in the print area. White in the CMYK file that is 100% K in the Liquid Foil file will appear as a plain silver.
Beware of Edge Cracking
Edge cracking is common on business cards when the card has a high value of ink such as dark colors. This typically happens because of the finish used as well as the colors used in the document. This is NOT caused by a dull blade. To avoid this problem, we advise that you use lighter colors! Another alternative is proceeding with a Silk Laminated Business Card. We will not reprint any order that contains edge cracking as this is a natural process when using a Finish versus a Laminate.
